Public services such as water utilities consume a great deal of available water resources. Obstacles to conservation of these resources includes pressure on public services to provide for schools and prisons, uncertainty in the future and governmental policies these services have to follow. Many of our resources are being overused or wasted and need to be taken care of for the future.
The overcrowding of prisons and consolidation of schools puts pressure on public services and water resources that are already being stretched thin. New and innovative ideas need to be implemented to ease the strain of the overcrowding of schools and prisons. Public utilities that service schools and prisons need to have viable plans to continue to service these two areas.. The more people that are put into schools and prisons will significantly deplete available water resources.
Water utilities and other public services also face uncertainty in the future. Now and into the future water utilities will need to invent new ways to purify water. If not, we will have serious problems having potable water that is safe to drink. Not only do water utilities service cities they also service schools and prisons that may be in or near a city. Services such as fire protection, on the other hand, need to make sure that they have water available and that they have access to hydrants. If the problem of resource depletion is allowed to continue at such a large rate there will be little to no resources for the future.
Water utilities have policies that they follow to obtain clean, pure, and potable water. They also have policies that dictate where they get there water. Water utilities in big metropolitan cities, such as New York, purify there water from rivers and lakes which probably aren't the cleanest. They have to make sure that their purification methods produce pure and clean potable water. All public services are governed by one kind of policy or another, so the services that are provided are acceptable to the people.
In a society with constantly changing prison and school populations we cannot afford to waste or overuse resources. They are in too high of a demand and too limited to misuse Our government seems to have waited a little too long to address the problems of resource depletion. We need to find ways implement new ideas and/or programs to alleviate many of our resource problems.
